Many times certain medical conditions and problems can be narrowed down to a specific group of individuals. This narrowing down allows medical professionals to know which individuals are at a higher risk of developing certain diseases and conditions. Here is a look at who is at risk for developing hidradenitis suppurativa.
Females. When looking across the board at who developed this skin condition more often it was discovered that females experienced it more often than males. There is no known reason as to why this occurred.
Ages 12 to 40. Hidradenitis suppurativa will usually start to show itself at the beginning of puberty. It will often occur as hard to treat acne. There are no known cases of hidradenitis suppurativa in children. While it is believed that the condition will stop sometime in a patient’s 40s there are documented cases of the condition showing up in individuals who are over the age of 40. However, this is rare.
Family History. Although hidradenitis suppurativa is not a genetic condition those who have a family history are more susceptible to this rare skin condition than others who had no previous family history of the condition.
Although these factors can help health care professionals and dermatologists determine who might be at risk for developing hidradenitis suppurativa it does not determine who exactly will get it. Hidradenitis suppurativa has been known to occur in certain a number of individuals regardless of age, sex, ethnic or racial background. However, if you fit into one of the above listed categories you are at a high risk of developing it than other individuals.
